Rey Mysterio was recently written off WWE TV with an eye injury after he was attacked by Seth Rollins as part of a tag team match which also included Murphy and Aleister Black.
Mysterio was pushed into the steel steps, eye first, and this was then used as a way to both further the heel character of The Monday Night Messiah and to write the WWE Legend off TV while his future remains unclear.
According to Alex McCarthy of TALKSport, Mysterio is currently in the same position as Drew Gulak, who was recently released by the company.
The former Cruiserweight Champion was enjoying the best run of his career under Daniel Bryan’s wing and even wrestled Bryan as part of the Intercontinental Championship tournament on Friday night, ahead of his release.
It’s reported that Gulak had failed to agree on a new contract because he was pushing for a pay raise and was then allowed to walk away despite being pushed recently on WWE TV.
In the current climate, WWE is in no position to offer any of its stars a pay raise, especially since many members of their roster were released last month. This puts Mysterio in an awkward situation since he is yet to re-sign with WWE and his contract is due to expire in the coming months.
Dominick is currently training at the Performance Center which is one of the things that could keep him in WWE, but with the lack of improved offers, then Mysterio could decide to end his career with NJPW or even AEW.
Mysterio has expressed a desire to end his career in WWE in the past, but it’s unknown if his intentions are still the same. Could Mysterio be another star to make the decision to send his career at a rival promotion instead?
