Sasha Banks’ WWE Raw Women’s Championship Win Reportedly a Last Minute Decision

WWE had a major title change on RAW this week when Asuka lost her RAW Women’s Championship to Sasha Banks. Banks won her record-setting fifth RAW Women’s Title after Asuka was counted out. Asuka went out to help Kairi Sane, who was being ruthlessly attacked by Bayley backstage, resulting in her title loss.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this was a last-minute change to the tapings, as WWE was planning for a different attacker for Kairi Sane.

Since it was Sane’s last night on RAW, her attacker would go on to face Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship at SummerSlam. However, WWE dropped those plans and instead went with Banks as the winner.

“Originally Asuka was supposed to defend the title at SummerSlam against whoever injured Kairi and that was as of at last Sunday night or Monday morning of the tapings when they tore all that up.”

Natalya and Shayna Baszler were rumored as the possible attackers until WWE dropped those plans. Shayna Baszler is now in a feud with Nia Jax, possibly as a babyface, while Natalya hasn’t been seen on WWE TV for a while.

As noted earlier, Kairi Sane finished up her contract with WWE this month, and will now leave to Japan. Sane has left on good terms with the company, and WWE even issued a wonderful goodbye message for the Pirate Princess.
