Last night on SmackDown Live, the company announced three interesting matches for SummerSlam including Trish Stratus vs Charlotte, which is a women’s match that has been in the making for a number of years.
Sami Zayn made the trip over to SmackDown Live to challenge Aleister Black to a match at SummerSlam after The Dutch Destroyer was able to overcome the threat of Cesaro back at Extreme Rules, but one interesting match that was announced last night sees Dolph Ziggler go one-on-one with The Miz.
After all of the build over the past week since Ziggler attacked WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, this announcement did feel like something of a disappointment even though Miz and Ziggler have had fantastic matches over the years.
There is good news for fans who are not happy with the announcement though since Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer recently reported that the match isn’t expected to take place.
Meltzer referred to the match as a “red herring” and stated that it will be changed in the next week before SummerSlam. It was also once again made clear that Ziggler will not be wrestling Shawn Michaels at The Biggest Party of the Summer since The Heartbreak Kid refuses to return to the ring following his disappointing match at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia last year.
The current speculation is that it could infact be Goldberg, who Ziggler has mentioned in a number of promos over the past few weeks, including the promo where he announced his match against The Miz last night on SmackDown Live. If Goldberg isn’t Ziggler’s opponent then it’s unknown why The Showoff continues to throw shade at the WWE Hall of Famer but he is now the expected opponent for Ziggler on August 11th.
