This Sunday night in Portland, Rhea Ripley defends her NXT Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair in what is expected to be her final Championship defense ahead of WrestleMania. Ripley has been overlooking the EST of NXT over the past few weeks since she’s set out on a quest to challenge Charlotte Flair to a Championship match at WrestleMania in April, when Ripley may not be the Champion at this point.
Charlotte is yet to accept the challenge laid down by Ripley over a week ago on RAW but is expected to accept after The Nightmare’s title defense this weekend. The fact that there have been rumors regarding this match over the past few months means that WWE is expected to go ahead with the planned match between Ripley and Flair at WrestleMania, but according to PWInsider, the buildup could kick off this weekend.
The site is reporting that Charlotte Flair will be in attendance in Portland and could play a huge role in the outcome of the Women’s Championship match.
“The current plan for this Sunday’s WWE NXT Takeover: Portland is for Charlotte Flair to be in attendance to further her storyline with Rhea Ripley leading into WrestleMania 36.”
After both Belair and Ripley put hands on Flair last week on NXT, online speculation began regarding another Women’s Championship triple threat at WrestleMania. Could Charlotte be set to interfere in the Women’s Championship match on Sunday night and kickstart the build-up to her match at WrestleMania in just 54 days?
There has to be a reason why Charlotte Flair is traveling all the way to Portland this weekend and it appears that all will become clear when the women step in the ring and Rhea Ripley is finally given the spotlight she has been searching for. With Elimination Chamber still to come ahead of WrestleMania, there could be many more twists and turns in this story.
