Royal Rumble is just a week away, and the anticipation for the first PPV of the decade is high among the wrestling loyalists. The Rumble matchup is one of the most iconic presentations in the company and has traditionally been a bundle of surprises for the fans.
This year’s Rumble is set to have its own share of surprises too, as NXT superstar Velveteen Dream and former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal are set to return at the Rumble event.
According to PWInsider, WWE is bringing back these two individuals for the event, although it is unknown whether they’ll be part of the thirty-man matchup. Dream has been out of action since October, while Jinder Mahal has had an extended stay on the sidelines.
“PWInsider.com has been told by multiple sources that NXT star The Velveteen Dream (who has been off TV with a back issue, but has been at all NXT TV tapings and the Performance Center regularly) and Jinder Mahal (who has been out since last year with a torn ACL) are slated to be in Houston, Texas for Royal Rumble weekend.”
WWE has officially confirmed NXT as the third brand, which means more and more superstars from the yellow brand could appear in the Rumble, even though there are rumors about NXT not being part of the Rumble this year, and it would be a perfect moment for Dream to make his presence known to the main-roster audiences.
The report from PWInsider states that both the individuals will fly into Texas for the event, and could possibly put their names in for the Royal Rumble matchup. Jinder Mahal, who won the WWE Championship in 2017, was a fixture on the lower card and the 24/7 title picture before injury took him out of action last year.
With names like Edge and CM Punk rumored for the event, this year’s Rumble promises to pack a punch with several biggies on the card.
