Vince McMahon is quite a complicated personality, and it is difficult to gauge what’s going on inside the billionaire’s mind. Former Intercontinental Champion Luke Harper has been out of action for over a year now, and even though he was declared fit for in-ring competition, he is yet to make a return to regular WWE programming.
Luke Harper starred in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, and has never appeared on WWE television ever since. Harper requested a release from WWE in July, which was turned down by the Chairman.
According to several reports, WWE added six months to Harper’s contract, which was set to expire in November this year. Due to this, Harper is now under a contract until April next year.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon doesn’t want to use Harper, and the company is happy to run down the contract without any work for the former Wyatt Family member.
Harper is one of the best ‘big men’ in WWE roster, as his wrestling abilities are impeccable. The superstar, who turns 40 later this year, was on the verge of a WrestleMania matchup for the WWE Championship in 2017, but he couldn’t make it.
Harper’s status is quite similar to Neville, who is now known as PAC. Neville walked out of the company and stayed at home until his contract got over. He eventually returned to the indie circuit, and signed a deal with WWE’s rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling.
Luke Harper will definitely look to join either NJPW or AEW once his contract is over, and could be a major star in either of the promotions.
Hopefully, WWE and Harper come to a truce in coming months, and Harper returns to the company similar to Sasha Banks. Until then, Harper’s career in WWE looks to be done and dusted.
