Vince McMahon has made WWE the global phenomenon that it is today and while making himself a proud billionaire in the process.
The Chairman recently announced Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff as the new Executive Directors of Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live respectively. Many rejoiced over Heyman’s new influential role in the company, however, Bischoff didn’t receive the same reaction.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that several former Impact Wrestling stars who worked with Bischoff back then were actually shocked with the announcement. After all, it’s not easy to forget how Bischoff sunk TNA’s ship back in the day.
And this has made people wonder whether McMahon is really aware of pro wrestling outside WWE.
“You know there’s a lot of people who were in TNA that are in WWE — to say that they’re baffled is the understatement of the year. I mean they’re just like rolling their eyes, I mean none of them had a clue either. I mean they can’t even believe it.”
“They’re like, ‘How can someone be so out of touch’ and the thing was and I’ve heard this from a lot of people: ‘Vince really doesn’t know anything about wrestling outside of WWE — AT ALL!’ I mean that’s kinda the conclusion and I’m not just talking about ex TNA guys in that company. I mean that’s been the consensus of people in and around that company across the board. ‘Wow, we know he doesn’t follow wrestling and he doesn’t watch wrestling, but he doesn’t know anything about wrestling anymore outside of his walls.’”
Let’s hope things turn out differently for Bischoff in WWE. McMahon’s billion-dollar wrestling promotion can’t afford to make any silly blunders now that AEW is on the rise and has already shown the world what they’re capable of.
Only time will reveal whether McMahon is really unaware of what goes on in the pro wrestling business outside his company.
