The Wednesday Night Wars have been on hold for the last couple of weeks due to NBA getting in the way. As a result, both WWE and AEW didn’t have to worry about the rating war and fans got the opportunity to watch both shows without any hassle.
WWE aired a special episode of NXT on Tuesday this week which led to the belief that the company could be considering moving NXT to Tuesdays permanently.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that a couple of months ago USA Network had proposed to WWE that NXT be moved to Tuesday nights.
However, Vince McMahon rejected the idea right away due to his appetite for crushing Dynamite in the Wednesday Night Wars.
“I know that a couple of months ago there was a meeting with Vince to discuss this very issue, and at the meeting I mean it was like ‘move to another day we’ll have better viewership and a bigger audience.’ On that day it was shut down for all the obvious reasons that, you know, what was it put on TV in the first place for?”
In the 45-week battle, NXT has beaten Dynamite only 8 times. Given Mr. McMahon has noticed a significant difference in their viewership without AEW competition, it’s only a matter of time before the black-and-gold brand moves to Tuesday nights.
