Cain Velasquez, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion made his Professional Wrestling debut, and surprisingly excelled in his first-ever match inside the squared circle. AAA is the most popular wrestling promotion in Mexico and Triplemania is their premier event similar to what WrestleMania is for WWE. Cain Velasquez busted out several acrobatic maneuvers and settled into the wrestler role rather easily.

WWE is reportedly keeping a close eye on Cain Velasquez, according to a report by Fightful Select. Velasquez trained at the WWE Performance Center last year, but was never officially signed for an NXT or a main roster deal.

Velasquez even wore a mask for his match, adhering to the popular tradition of wearing masks in the Lucha Libre culture which originated in Mexico. Velasquez picked up the victory for his team after he applied the Kimura Lock, a maneuver also used by Velasquez’s former UFC opponent Brock Lesnar.

WWE has already signed former UFC Champions Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar, and hence, WWE’s interest in Velasquez is not far-fetched. Velasquez has received nothing but praise from his coaches, his fellow wrestlers and wrestling fans worldwide.

WWE bringing in Velasquez to reignite his rivalry with Brock Lesnar, will be a massive moment and will definitely bring more eyes to the product. According to Fightful Select, Velasquez has two more matches to go with AAA in his current deal, and could move to greener pastures post that.

“There were several within WWE who were also watching the show and will be paying attention to how his next two matches go.”

Even Cody Rhodes, Cain’s tag-team partner at Triplemania, expressed interest in signing the MMA veteran. Cody was highly impressed by Cain’s quick grasp of the professional wrestling industry and said that he would definitely want to see him in an AEW ring at one point.

WWE is soon moving to FOX, where Cain Velasquez appeared several times during his tenure with UFC. WWE could look to bring back the superstar in order to appeal to the FOX audiences.
