Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis-Bennett recently inked new deals with WWE that will fetch them around $500,000 a year over the next 5 years.
This week on Monday Night RAW, Mike and Maria lost to WWE’s newest power couple, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in mixed tag team action. During the match, Maria announced herself as pregnant to save herself from a beatdown at the hands of The Man.
Post-match, Maria cut a short promo on her husband, burying him in the process. This was reportedly the same angle that had been pitched to the couple at the time of renewal of their contracts.
On Oh, You Didn’t Know podcast, Brad Shepard revealed that according to a source in WWE, the company is upset with Maria for concealing her pregnancy prior to the contract signing. The Bennetts may have already buried themselves – they won’t be receiving any significant push down the line.
“According to a source in WWE, the company is upset about Maria announcing her pregnancy after her and her husband re-signed new contracts. The source described them as ‘sh*t’ and said ‘not to expect a significant push anytime soon.’
Whether Mike and Maria found out about their pregnancy after the renewal of their contracts is the burning question at this point.
Ever since their arrival in WWE, the lovebirds have struggled to get significant on-screen time. Earlier this year, there were rumors of Mike and Maria quitting WWE after they were continuously absent from 205 Live.
Maria made a speedy return to the ring after giving birth to her first child but don’t expect her to be any more relevant in the company. Her best years in WWE are behind her and there’s no way the company will be giving her a main event push anytime in the future unless she is made to squash-feud with the main eventers.
