WWE NXT Faces Scheduling Change Due to NBC Sports Network Shutdown

News broke earlier this week that NBC will be shutting their NBC Sports Network later this year. According to reports, this could affect WWE NXT.

NBC Sports was the primary home of NHL and it is believed that NBC will move it to either the Peacock service or, more likely, the USA Network.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, NBC’s need to find a new home for the NHL could affect NXT programming.

During the regular hockey season and the playoffs, NHL matches are usually held on Wednesday nights. If NHL is indeed moved to USA Network, they will take priority on the schedule, taking NXT’s Wednesday night time slot.

NHL matches taking precedent over wrestling on USA is not unheard of, last year NXT was preempted twice in order to allow NHL games to be broadcast.

What’s more, NXT’s original contract with USA is set to end this October. If NHL does end up in USA and the network is also still interested in NXT, it is likely that a schedule change to Tuesday or Thursday will happen.

Currently, NXT and AEW Dynamite, air at the same time on Wednesday night. If NXT switches nights, it will bring what some people call the “Wednesday Night Wars” to an end.
