Charlotte Flair and Natalya teamed up this week on Raw to take on Women’s Tag Team Champions Kairi Sane and Asuka, otherwise known collectively as The Kabuki Warriors. The match was fast-paced from start to finish and finally ended with Asuka tapping to the Sharpshooter when Natalya had finally locked it in.
It was a strange matchup since The Kabuki Warriors have recently been feuding with Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, but it was still a match that The Kabuki Warriors should have won, and according to The Wrestling Observer, this was the original plan.
Dave Meltzer noted on the most recent episode of the show that Asuka and Kairi Sane were originally slated to pick up the win over the mix-matched team of Flair and Natalya, but this was later changed so that Natalya could tap out Asuka.
There was no reason reported as to why the finish was changed seemingly at the last minute, but speculation suggests that WWE wanted to allow Natalya’s momentum to continue following her victory over Lacey Evans in Saudi Arabia on Thursday night.
The Queen of Harts has been gaining a lot of media attention over the past few days and this win allows her and Flair to book themselves in a Women’s Tag Team Championship match in the future.
Natalya has been part of the WWE roster for more than a decade and she was finally able to make history alongside Lacey Evans in the Middle East at Crown Jewel by competing in the first-ever women’s match in the country.
Given the headlines that have followed WWE’s recent outing to Saudi Arabia, it makes sense that the company would want to try and find a positive from the whole situation and a push for Natalya could be the one that they have chosen.
