WWE Reportedly Considered Randy Orton vs Edge for World Title Match at WrestleMania 37

Randy Orton is scheduled to challenge Drew McIntyre for the prestigious WWE Championship this Sunday at SummerSlam.

The betting odds suggest that Orton (-140) is the favorite to beat McInytre (+100) for his fourteenth world title victory on August 23rd.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the outcome of Sunday’s title defense will give the WWE Universe a clear indication of the direction in which the company is about to proceed.

The interesting part is that Orton dethroning McIntyre will allow Edge to reinsert himself into the title picture and that’s exactly what WWE had considered at a certain point.

“The line-up has Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton for the WWE title in a significantly huge match as far as the future direction goes. Orton winning, leading to a title defense against Edge at WrestleMania was an idea on the board.”

Needless to say, looking at the current landscape of Monday Night RAW, an Orton world title win wouldn’t be out of the question in the slightest.

Up until now, McIntyre has been booked strongly and no Superstar has been able to take the title off him. Not only has WWE protected the Sexy Scotsman, but it’s also been ensured that the former 3MB member is always portrayed as a fearless champion.

“But others have been behind McIntyre with the idea the company needs a different star rather than someone who has been around a long time in the top spot, and McIntyre has been protected strongly. But this is one result that will tell a lot about the currently planned future direction.”

The most bizarre fact is McIntyre has already run through most of the top-tier heels on RAW including Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley.

There aren’t any bigger obstacles for McIntyre to overcome than Orton, and it remains to be seen which Superstar leaves the Amway Center with the WWE Title come Sunday.
