Goldberg made an epic return this week on Monday Night RAW by signing a contract that will see him go 1-on-1 with Dolph Ziggler this Sunday at Summerslam.
Goldberg wrestled his last match against The Undertaker at the Super ShowDown pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia. The match turned out to be the worst worked match of this year so far; The Hall Of Famer concussed himself early on and ended up making it a painful bout for himself and The Phenom.
WWE quickly gave The Undertaker an opportunity to erase the bitter memory from fans’ minds, thus booking him in a tag team match at Extreme Rules. With Roman Reigns as his partner, The Deadman once again proved why he is still WWE’s biggest attraction despite being way past his prime.
Now that WWE has re-established The Undertaker, it’s time to get the dirt off Goldberg. And it is for this reason that the billion-dollar promotion has come up with the decision to bring the former Universal Champion back and once again cement him for the legend that he is.
On Oh, You Didn’t Know podcast, Brad Shepard revealed that Goldberg’s return was nothing short of a well-guarded secret and WWE even worked its staff to make sure the news stayed behind closed doors.
“WWE basically worked everybody internally on this as far as Goldberg. I can’t get into the detail I would like to for different reasons, but they went through extraordinary lengths in some cases to hide the fact that Goldberg would be showing up to Summerslam and having a match, I’ll just put it that way.”
How WWE books Goldberg at SummerSlam is yet to be seen but it wouldn’t come off as a surprise if the WCW legend wipes The Showoff clean in under a minute.
