Brock Lesnar is on a hiatus until the build-up for January’s Royal Rumble and meanwhile, Vince McMahon is busy shortlisting The Beast’s potential opponents for WrestleMania 36.

Alex McCarthy of Talk Sport reports that the two frontrunners to face Lesnar for the title at WrestleMania are Cain Velasquez and Tyson Fury.

“As far as Lesnar goes, WWE are looking at two options. One would see him face Cain Velasquez in what the company would bill as a ‘rubber match’ as Velasquez dethroned Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title in MMA and Lesnar defeated Velasquez on his WWE debut at Crown Jewel in October. However, if Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder to become the WBC heavyweight champion of the world, the allure of having a boxing world champion face Lesnar is expected to be too much for Vince McMahon.”

While both Lesnar vs. Velasquez and Lesnar vs. Fury will hands-down wreak havoc at the box-office, neither match will sit well with hardcore fans who prefer to see a rising talent or popular act collide with The Beast at the biggest pay-per-view of 2020.

Lesnar was originally planned to face Fury at Crown Jewel, but Velasquez being the more popular star in the USA caused WWE to change plans ahead of the show. Fans ended up getting Lesnar vs. Velasquez and Fury vs. Braun Strowman both of which brutally failed to live up to the hype.

Since last month, Velasquez has been rumored to challenge Lesnar for the WWE Title at ‘Mania next year. The latest rumors further suggest that WWE will scoop Fury up at once if he’s able to dethrone Deontay Wilder in February.

A couple of years ago, The Beast wrestled Goldberg for the Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 33. The fact that WWE is considering yet another part-timers’ showdown for the 2020 PPV may spark a huge outrage among fans who wish to see full-time Superstars headline the grand show.
