WWE Hall of Famer Edge was forced onto the sidelines back in 2011 when it was revealed that he had cervical spinal stenosis. The former World Champion was forced to relinquish his Championship and was then added to the Hall of Fame the following year.
Over the past eight years, Edge has concentrated on family life, which has included welcoming two daughters with his wife Beth Phoenix. While taking a lengthy hiatus from the ring, Edge has also been able to pursue a career in acting where the moves he learned as a wrestler have certainly come in handy.
Earlier in the year, after eight years in retirement, the former World Champion was reportedly cleared to wrestle once again and celebrated the occasion by spearing Elias back at SummerSlam. Despite the fact that he’s been cleared, Edge hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since SummerSlam, but this doesn’t mean that the company doesn’t have plans for him.
According to a report by Brad Shepard, Edge is actually on a wish list internally in WWE on the same level as CM Punk. It’s thought that the company want The Rated R Superstar to be part of the upcoming WrestleMania, but just because WWE wants it, doesn’t mean it will happen since Edge himself hasn’t been pushing for a return, so he may not be interested.
That being said, Beth Phoenix has been working on NXT over the past few months and an opportunity to be back on the road with his wife could be enough to convince him to return for one more match. As of writing, there are no current candidates in the slot for the match against Edge, but if it became clear that the WWE Hall of Famer was open to a return then there would definitely be no shortage of superstars hoping to step up.
