It’s 2019 and it seems that WWE is set to take a huge step forward on SmackDown Live by finally having a lesbian storyline surrounding their Women’s Division. It’s become a well-known fact in recent years that Sonya Deville is openly gay and was even in a relationship with Seth Rollins’ former girlfriend Zahra Schreiber a few years ago.
Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville met as part of Tough Enough back in 2015 and have been best friends ever since. The two women worked together in NXT before being promoted as Absolution alongside Paige, but even after the trio disbanded Rose and Deville have remained together as Fire and Desire on SmackDown Live.
Deville has made it her mission to push Rose forward towards the SmackDown Women’s Championship earlier this year and even stepped aside so that the star could take the place in the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, before trying to help her win the contract itself when she carried her up the ladder.
Deville has done everything she can to show Rose how loyal she is over the past few months, but this week on SmackDown Live was the first time anything between the two women was seen as romantic.
Rose helped Deville to win her match against Ember Moon and as the two women celebrated following the match, there was a slight change of tone as the former MMA star stroked Rose’s face before grabbing her hair and resuming her celebrations.
The WWE Universe has picked up on this hint and reacted positively on Social Media, so it appears that this kind of storyline could be exactly what the company has been looking for to improve SmackDown Live’s recent bad run of ratings and finally give the women on the roster something to work with.
