WWE streams a number of shows live every week, which causes a number of issues when it comes to the week of Christmas. A few years ago the company was able to stream both Raw and SmackDown live on Christmas day and Boxing day, but according to WrestleVotes, this won’t be the case this year.
The social media site states that WWE will pre-record the Christmas edition of Monday Night Raw the week before on December 17th in Sioux City, Iowa. This will later air on Monday, December 22nd in Raw’s usual spot.
There is currently no update on when NXT will be recorded since Christmas day falls on a Wednesday this year which means that the show will not be aired live on the USA Network. The only show that week that will be aired live is Friday Night SmackDown since it’s now on the FOX Network and it’s not set to be streamed live until the end of Christmas week.
SmackDown won’t be streamed until December 27th, which means that all WWE talents will have some time off between December 22nd which is the final episode of SmackDown ahead of Christmas and December 26th, which is when WWE house shows resume.
As of yet, there is no news on what All Elite Wrestling is planning for Dynamite on Christmas Day either since it’s not expected that the company will call their stars into work on the holidays. Of course, it’s only October so there is plenty of time for AEW to make some decisions as well as WWE when it comes to when NXT will be pre-recorded.
It’s thought that both NXT and AEW will return to their usual times the following week, even though this would mean that their content will be streamed live on New Year’s Day.
