Braun Strowman lost the Wyatt Swamp match at Extreme Rules on Sunday night and now the WWE Universe will be forced to wait until Friday Night SmackDown to find out what happened to Strowman in the swamp.
The Universal Champion was dragged into the water by Bray Wyatt before The Fiend emerged from the waterbed having seemingly been able to overcome the threat of Strowman.
There have been a number of rumors suggesting that Strowman could be repackaged following the loss and it will allow WWE to bulk up his character somewhat. Remember that Strowman wasn’t originally supposed to become Universal Champion, he stepped in at the last minute for Roman Reigns and WWE’s hands were tied because they needed to take the title off Goldberg.
Strowman had a character when he was in The Wyatt Family but The Monster Among Men has seemingly been lost in recent weeks and this could be WWE’s chance to make their Universal Champion the main star of the SmackDown brand.
Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas recently spoke to WrestlingInc where he revealed that he believes WWE will repackage Strowman given the ending of the Swamp Fight.
“All I can say is I hope you’re correct my friend. That’s all I can say because right now something is missing. That’s the whole thing – you want to be able to connect and invest in these characters. Because of that something lacking in Braun, I am not connecting.”
Strowman is expected to return and face The Fiend for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam, a match that has been made since Roman Reigns is not able to return to WWE just yet. The fact that Strowman is expected to return and be part of next month’s SummerSlam means that he survived the Swamp Fight, but at what cost?
