Classic Round One: Aleister Black and Ricochet vs Fabian Aichner and Marcel
Barthel</strong></h2>



<p>Black started start things off with Barthel by going for his knees and got a near fall. Aichner then tagged himself in and got things rolling for his team by catching Black with a spine buster. </p>

<p>Black got tag teamed by his opponents until the hot tag to Ricochet who restored some order. Things gott a bit more ballistic and airborne including a crazy springboard double knee strike by Black. In the end, Black got the victory with a Black Mass on Aichner. </p>

<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>It
was pretty much a given that Black and Ricochet would win after the way they
have been winning everything on the main roster. Yet this match was able to
keep things interesting and told a nice story. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team
Classic last year didn’t quite live up to the hype but this year it is already
shaping up to be a great one. This was another great start to NXT.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dusty Rhodes Tag Team
Classic Round One: Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch vs The Forgotten Sons</strong></h2>



<p>Blake and Lorcan started things off and soon Lorcan was cornered and Blake and Cutler took turns beating up Lorcan. Once Lorcan was able to tag in Burch, things took a turn. Then the match shifted to a higher gear and after plenty of back and forth, Cutler and Blake hit a combination Reverse DDT and Double Foot Stomp for the win.</p>

<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This
followed a similar theme to the opening match. One guy getting tag teamed by
the opposite team. Then a hot tag followed by some speed moves and back and
forth and then the win. It was still enjoyable though and the Forgotten Sons
were the right team to win here. While it wasn’t as good as the opening match,
it was still quite fun.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dream and Riddle engage in a showoff</strong></h2>

<p><strong>Velveteen Dream</strong> walked out and stood on the announce table and reminded everyone that he is their North American Champion. <strong>Matt Riddle</strong> came out on the pretext of saying hi. Then he went on to loudly imagine how the belt would feel around his waist. Dream then said that he is in the spotlight and snapped his finger and a literal spotlight shined on him.</p>



<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This should be a fun feud as these aren’t regular wrestlers. They are dynamic characters and it would be interesting to see them go after each other. </p>



<p>The spotlight spot was actually quite fun and would have made fans miss the days when Undertaker would literally be able to summon a lightning bolt. This was also a nice break from the Dusty Rhodes Classic matches.</p>

Classic Round One: The Street Profits vs Mustache Mountain</strong></h2>



<p>Bate start edthings by monkey flipping Ford who managed to land on his feet. Things went about at a furious pace. Seven got cornered but was eventually saved by the hot tag. This was followed by quite a few near falls for both sides and Mustache Mountain prevailed in the end by hitting the Burning Hammer and Double Stomp Combo.</p>

match ended quickly but still managed to pack in a lot of action. It also
deviated from the way the first two matches went which was great. The Mustache
Mountain were the lowest profile winners of the night and this gives them the
platform they need to showcase their interesting style.</p>

Classic Round One: DIY vs The Undisputed Era</strong></h2>



<p>Gargano started things of by throwing Fish over the top. After some more assault by Gargano, Ciampa took over and dished out more punishment. </p>

<p>Fish and O’Reilly were able to fight back and the match went on swinging in favor of one team and then the other. At one point Ciampa landed multiple German Suplexes. A bit more back and forth took place and DIY hit Meet in the Middle for the win.</p>

<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This
match tied with the opening match for the best of the night and again was able
to showcase how better this year’s Dusty Rhodes Classic is. Last year’s injury
list was really long but this year there seems to be a surplus of talent.
Overall a fantastic match and it was a great way to close a show.</p>

<p><strong>Overall NXT Review: </strong>This was another great edition of NXT. Despite consisting almost entirely of tag matches for the tournament, it did not feel monotonous. The bit between Riddle and Dream was executed brilliantly. Time was also utilized nicely and overall, this was a great buildup to the Dusty Rhodes Classic.</p>
