<p>WWE SmackDown results from March 26 as the penultimate episode aired from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The New Day’s passionate plea gets Kofi another chance</strong></h2>



<p><strong>The New Day</strong> opened the show in the ring. Woods started recapping everything that had transpired with Kofi until then. <strong>Big E</strong> thanked the WWE Universe for always having their backs. They then reiterated how Kofi did not know the word ‘quit’ and that they had a to make a decision for him but only after they got some answers from Mr McMahon. </p>

<p>Vince came out to the ring but before he could speak, <strong>Daniel Bryan</strong> and <strong>Eric Rowan</strong> joined them in the ring. Bryan made a funny quip about throwing the New Day out and calling three NXT guys and call them Fresh Afternoon and have them throw around pancakes. </p>



<p>Verbal back and forth took place before McMahon informed everyone that Kingston had one last chance to make it to WrestleMania if Big E and Xavier Woods can win a tag team gauntlet match.</p>



<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This feud was getting overcooked but WWE finally did something unexpected and fresh to liven up the feud. Big E and Xavier Woods getting involved in this feud adds another dimension to it all with potential down the line as well. </p>



<p>This feud feels so engaging because it feels personal and real and this angle of having Big E and Woods needing to fight for their brother just enhances all those dynamics and makes it even more real. A great start to the show.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Charlotte is the SmackDown Women’s champion. Oh no!</strong></h2>



<p><em>(SmackDown Live Women’s Championship Match: Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair)</em></p>



<p><strong>Asuka </strong>and <strong>Charlotte Flair</strong> traded submission holds at the start. Flair tried a backroll but Asuka countered with a kick to the chest. Asuka mounted the offense with a code breaker. The contest became more intense after that. </p>

<p>Asuka got the near fall with a sliding knee. Asuka then kicked out after a boot by Charlotte. Flair missed a Moonsault and Asuka managed to lock in the Asuka Lock which Flair turned into a pin. A bit more back and forth took place and finally Flair managed to lock in the Figure Eight and made Asuka tap out.</p>

<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This match was like a terrible nightmare unfolding. Asuka losing the Championship was sad but what is worse is what this points to. </p>



<p>Either this points to a title unification bout which would be unfair on all the women or it is some silly way of putting both titles on Charlotte which would be the worst outcome of what started out as the most promising feud of this decade. The match was pretty good though and it gets a pass until more developments are made.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Kurt Angle’s farewell tour is interrupted</strong></h2>



<p><em>(Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles)</em></p>



<p><strong>Kurt Angle</strong> German suplexed <strong>AJ Styles</strong> to start the match. Angle tried an Angle slam but Styles countered it into a Calf Crusher. Angle then reversed it into an Ankle Lock. </p>

<p>Styles eventually managed to break the lock. <strong>Randy Orton</strong> then appeared out of nowhere and RKO’d Styles to cause the disqualification. After the match Orton continued stomping on Styles until he got Angle Slammed.</p>

<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This was a pretty generic angle for Angle. It is clear that he is way past his prime and having him in a long drawn out match with AJ Styles would not have helped either men. WWE went with the sensible route and kept all the wrestlers involved going strong till WrestleMania.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Miz is pushed too far</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Miz</strong> came out and informed everyone that he wants his WrestleMania match to be a falls count anywhere match. Miz then went into a graphic rant about what all he was going to do to <strong>Shane McMahon</strong> at WrestleMania but Shane interrupted him. </p>

<p>Shane came out with a bunch of security guards and the heels of the roster. He made fun of Miz’s father that angered Miz to the point where he took out pretty much everyone who surrounded Shane and ended up fighting SAnity through the crowd.</p>



<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This feud has slowly but surely gained enough
traction to generate at least some interest in this match. Shane is not the
best candidate to be in his spot but he isn’t the worst and that is something.
It was weirdly entertaining to see Miz so fired up and violent.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>A tale of brotherhood and earning respect</strong></h2>



<p><em>(Tag Team Gauntlet Match)</em></p>



<p><strong>Luke Gallows</strong> and <strong>Karl Anderson</strong> started the gauntlet match and were immediately eliminated when Woods hit a kick followed by the Up Up Down Down.</p>

<p><strong>Shinsuke Nakamura</strong> and <strong>Rusev</strong> were up next. This match featured a start where Woods was isolated and got attacked by the heels. This continued until the break. After the break, Woods managed to tag in Big E. </p>



<p>Big E connected with a string of Suplexes on Nakamura. Nakamura somehow managed to avoid the Big Ending. The action then spilled outside the ring. Nakamura missed the Kinshasa and New Day connected with the Up Up Down Down.</p>

<p><strong>The Bar</strong> started by taking turns to beat up Big E. Big E managed to tag in Woods who cleared the ring. Woods followed it up with a slingshot DDT. <strong>Sheamus </strong>fell to the outside and Woods landed a tope on him. Woods then landed a splash on <strong>Cesaro </strong>for a near fall. Big E then powerbombed Sheamus. </p>



<p>Woods tagged himself in and ate a European Uppercut from Cesaro. The Bar went for their finisher but Woods rolled up Sheamus to eliminate the Bar.</p>

<p>The Bar attacked New Day post-match. <strong>The Usos</strong> then appeared unable to wait for the match to start but once it did, they announced that the New Day has won their respect and that no one deserves the championship shot more than Kingston. They forfeited the match which drove Bryan mad backstage.</p>

<p><strong>Eric Rowan</strong> tossed Woods out of the ring. <strong>Daniel Bryan</strong> drove Big E’s knees into the ring post. Big E tried to rally back but Bryan rolled him up into a single leg crab. Woods broke it up. The two teams went back and forth. </p>



<p>Bryan and Rowan then started gaining the upper hand. Bryan asked Rowan to clear the table but Woods dived off the top rope and tornado DDT’d Bryan. Big E then clotheslined Rowan and turned the table over him. Rowan could not beat the count. <strong>Kingston is going to WrestleMania.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Our take from it: </strong>This was actually a pretty good option and perhaps was the best way to get Kingston into that title match. Thankfully WWE refrained from screwing Kofi out of the match again. </p>



<p>This is really personal now and Kingston is now in a similar spot to Bryan when he rose to superstardom. After 11 years of selfless service to the company, Kofi deserves this. This could be THE feel-good match of WrestleMania. Perfect way to end a near perfect show.</p>

<p><strong>Overall SmackDown Review: </strong>This was a near perfect show and exactly what was needed just 12 days away from WrestleMania. Charlotte winning the title does put that match in muddy waters again after it was resuscitated only the previous night on RAW. </p>



<p>The rest of the matches on SmackDown have been built up so far as well as they could have been and the tag team gauntlet match was the perfect way to cap it all off. One of the best shows of SmackDown in recent memory.</p>
