WWE presents Extreme Rules, the yearly incarnation of the PPV filled with gimmick matches. Based on the gimmick match of the same name, Extreme Rules has seen a lot of violent action over the years but has failed to deliver to the “extreme” name overall.



This year’s card has a Last Man Standing Match, a No Holds Barred Tag Team match and several other gimmick matches. In 2017, WWE Extreme Rules featured a kendo stick on a pole match between Alexa Bliss and Bayley, a rivalry which was voted “Worst Feud of the Year” in 2017 by Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The card for this Sunday looks rather promising, with several high-quality encounters featuring the return of The Undertaker to PPV action(excluding Saudi Arabia and Australia) for the first time since WrestleMania 34.



Lets have a rundown of the WWE Extreme Rules 2019 match card with thoughts and predictions for the last PPV before Summerslam!

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Cruiserweight Title Match: Drew Gulak vs Tony Nese </h2>

Tony Nese won the Cruiserweight Title match at WrestleMania and held it for two months before dropping to Drew Gulak at Stomping Grounds. He would look to regain his title and once again become the top guy of 205 Live. This match is still advertised on the main show, but could end up being moved to the pre-show at the last moment, as is the case with several 205 Live bouts.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. RAW Tag Team Title Match: The Revival(c) vs The Usos</h2>

The Revival won the RAW Tag Team Championships after defeating Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins last month but are yet to do anything relevant with the belts. RAW Tag Team Championships are arguably the worst booked titles on the main roster, and need some quality action for the belts to become relevant again. Usos and Revival are two extremely talented tag-teams and deserve a solid 20-minute match inside the ring. It could be a fun way to kick things off!



Prediction: The Usos to become the new champions.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. 2-on-1 Handicap Match for SmackDown Women’s Championship: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs Bayley(c)</h2>

Bayley and Alexa Bliss will reignite their rivalry from two years ago at Extreme Rules once again. Their match at the PPV two years ago was one of the worst in the history of WWE, and they’ll look to deliver better performance this time around.



With Nikki Cross in Alexa Bliss’ team, the chances of Bayley losing her title are extremely high. Although we haven’t seen co-champions since Michelle McCool and Layla, Bliss and Cross could very well become the co-holders of SmackDown Women’s Championship.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Triple Threat Match for SmackDown Tag Team Titles: The New Day vs Heavy Machinery vs Daniel Bryan and Rowan(c)</h2>

RAW Tag Team Championships are booked quite poorly but that is simply not the case with their blue brand counterparts. The tag titles on the blue brand have seen some high-quality matches and rivalries over the years and the trend will continue on Sunday.



Otis got an important win over Xavier Woods and Daniel Bryan on the go-home show of SmackDown Live, while Xavier Woods and Big E are out on a mission to ensure all the three guys in New Day hold titles simultaneously!

Ricochet was on the receiving end of the reunited Club’s wrath two weeks in a row. His reign as US Champion is under great threat due to Gallows and Anderson joining Styles and bringing back the Club to Monday Night RAW.



WWE won’t have Ricochet drop the title so quickly, and AJ Styles’ first match since turning heel shouldn’t end in defeat either. This is a major dilemma for WWE and it would be interesting to see what transpires this Sunday.

The only non-gimmick, non-title match on the card, Black and Cesaro will look to tear the house down with their impeccable wrestling abilities. Cesaro was reveled as Black’s first challenger this week, and is the perfect opponent for Black’s first match as a singles competitor in WWE.



There are rumors of Bray Wyatt returning during this match to set up a feud between Black and Wyatt. Either way, it is going to be a cracker of a match!

In a match rumored to be the new RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman’s brainchild, Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley faced off in a Falls Count Anywhere match on RAW which ended after Strowman slammed Lashley through the lighting area. Both the superstars were taken to a local medical facility, and are set to resume hostilities at Extreme Rules.



Both the superstars are extremely good when it comes to such gimmick matches, and should definitely create yet another wild moment on Sunday.

One of the first matches announced for the PPV, Samoa Joe begins his third summer in a row chasing the world championship. He lost against Brock Lesnar twice in 2017, and thrice against AJ Styles last year.



Although Kofi has not lost a single match ever since becoming champion, he could very well lose his title to the Destroyer come Sunday.

Roman Reigns has had issues with Shane McMahon and his lackeys since quite some time, and he received some unexpected help from the Deadman himself last month. Reigns and Undertaker will team up to face Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre in a match which promises to be not a wrestling classic, but definitely an interesting battle filled with several destructive moments.

Although not a single soul in the world wants Baron Corbin anywhere near the Universal Championship, WWE has made sure Corbin has stayed in the title picture for close to two months now!



In an interesting encounter, the Man Becky Lynch and her Man, Seth Rollins, will defend their titles against the heel duo. Could Brock Lesnar cash-in? If he does, does Lynch lose her title too? Sunday’s going to be interesting!
