John Cena is currently busy with Hollywood but will be ready just in time for WrestleMania 35 where he will be facing a new opponent with whom he shares a long history.

The Wrestling Observer reports that newly crowned WWE United States Champion Samoa Joe could be defending his title against Cena at WrestleMania.

Joe won the title on Tuesday when he battled former champion R-Truth, Rey Mysterio and Andrade in a Fatal 4-Way match on SmackDown Live.

While the booking practically sells itself as a marquee dream match, it’s worth noting that the 16-time World Champion could be turning into a mid-carder for the United States Championship is indeed a mid-card title.

Cena is currently a free agent, more precisely a part-timer in WWE, thus allowing the company to book him in matches that could be anywhere on the ladder.

As reported earlier, Lars Sullivan was the man to beat Cena at WrestleMania, after kicking off the feud at January’s Royal Rumble.

With the NXT behemoth apparently out of the picture, Joe could be the new opponent for Cena at WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of the year.

The situation is more aligned towards booking The Champ in a blockbuster match than the title itself.

While Cena is no stranger to facing bulky Superstars for the US Championship at ‘Mania, this could be the first time that he actually puts his opponent over in the title match.

The Leader of Cenation has defeated heavyweights like The Big Show and Rusev to capture the mid-card title at The Grandest Stage Of Them All, but this time it could be the Destroyer who stops Cena in his tracks.

Joe helped Cena on getting signed with WWE during their early days at Ultimate Pro Wrestling. The story might come full circle on April 8 when The Franchise Player finally returns the favor by putting The Submission Specialist over, thereby establishing him as the future star of the company.
