Professional wrestling’s high-flying legend Rey Mysterio returned to WWE in October and is already reported to be part of a big title match at WrestleMania 35.
On Barnburner’s No Holds Barred podcast, Giancarlo Aulino revealed that WWE is already locking the Master of 619 in a United States Championship match at next year’s Showcase of Immortals.
“I spoke to a few sources as well and right now Rey Mysterio is being penciled in for a United States title match but they’re still working on who is going to go into WrestleMania with the title. Three names being discussed: Shinsuke Nakamura holding it until then to face Rey Mysterio. Samoa Joe is another one or Andrade Cien Almas — can you imagine Rey Mysterio vs Andrade Cien Almas, two Mexicans for the United States Title?”
“I’m hearing too that two of the three names of whoever doesn’t walk into WrestleMania with the United States Title, they will be in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal. So there’s going to be plenty of star power in that match.”
Mysterio is currently feuding with 13-time World Champion “The Viper” Randy Orton on SmackDown Live. Both these legends share a deep personal history in WWE and the current feud is only helping to strengthen their legacy.
The only question WWE is concerned with right now is who Rey will be facing at the MetLife Stadium on April 7, 2019.
Mysterio defeating his opponent to win the United States Title at the Show of Shows seems to be the ideal storyline.
It would indeed be a historic WrestleMania moment for the masked wonder who is currently working a limited schedule in WWE. Vince McMahon might want to give Rey his first title run since his return to the company in October and the championship reign could likely commence on April 7 for good.
