Velveteen Dream wasn’t part of Takeover: Phoenix on Saturday night but he was spotted backstage as part of the show before he later went out in front of the crowd and was part of a brawl that also included Ricochet, Aleister Black, Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa.

It was thought that Dream was in Phoenix because he was set to be part of the Royal Rumble match, which would have been quite the swerve for WWE after Triple H kept him off the Takeover card despite the fan backlash that followed the announcement of the overall card.

Many fans were left disappointed when Aleister Black, Johnny Gargano, and Pete Dunne were the only representatives from NXT and Velveteen Dream didn’t make an appearance as planned.

WWE did seem to concentrate a lot on contracted talent in the Rumble though since there weren’t many returning legends because the company opted to include NXT stars who where hungry to make a statement instead.

Reports now suggest that this could be because the NXT star was injured as part of the matches that took place earlier in the day on Sunday ahead of the Rumble.

According to PWInsider, Dream was spotted backstage at Royal Rumble sporting a neck brace after wrestling as part of AXXESS earlier in the day.

“The Velveteen Dream was sporting a neck brace last night. He had wrestled earlier in the day at the Royal Rumble AXXESS event.”

It is unknown as to whether or not Dream was injured or this was his way of starting some more rumors much like his recent comments on Social Media, which reportedly got him into trouble with WWE officials.
